About Us
Hi, I am Rebecca Tapper and I’m the heart (and hands!) behind Poppy’s: A Taste of MD. As a Maryland native, I grew up surrounded by the unmistakable smells of Old Bay, sizzling crab cakes, and dinners that fed more than just the belly—they fed the soul.
Opening Poppy’s has been a dream rooted in family, tradition, and a deep love for the flavors I grew up with. Named in honor of my beloved Dad—whose cooking brought everyone to the table—this carryout and catering kitchen is my way of keeping those memories alive, one dish at a time.
I handcraft every crab cake and pour my heart into every bite because this isn’t just food—it’s home.
Now living in North Carolina, to be close to my mom (Minny!) after my father’s passing in August of 2024, I’m lucky to share life (and plenty of taste-tests) with my two amazing kids, Shayna and Kaden. Whether you’re picking up a quick meal or planning a special event, I’m here to bring a little taste of Maryland to your table—from my family to yours.

Poppy was equal parts silly and serious, endlessly hardworking, and fiercely dedicated to his family. Everything he did— every sacrifice, was for us. He lived with heart disease for eight years, defying every prognosis along the way. According to the charts, he should have been frail and sickly—but the man the doctors saw in front of them was still cracking jokes, still working, still showing up every day for the people he loved. They couldn’t believe the two matched up.
But that was Poppy—tougher than the odds, full of life until the very end. Eventually, his body gave out, but his spirit never did. He left behind a blueprint for how to live: love your family, work hard and never, ever do anything halfway.
At Poppy’s: A Taste of MD, we carry that legacy in every bite. This isn’t just a business—it’s a tribute. And if you leave here full, happy, and maybe a little nostalgic, then we’ve done right by him.
